Disposable Wedding Cakes!

Planning a wedding can be somewhat expensive, but don’t let the credit crunch dictate your big day. If you are one of the soon-to-be brides that has booked your big event this year, not to worry, you can now rent a disposable wedding cake.

Your wedding day is a great time to be thrifty without sacrificing elegance. Renting a stunning multi-tiered wedding cake for the fraction of the price of an authentic one also eliminates the risk of accidental wedding cake blunders.

The rental cake is not for eating, rather it is simply on display when the couple feeds each other and then is taken to the kitchen. Guests are handed slices from a regular sheet cake kept out of view. Most of you said that cakes aren't a disposable wedding expense, but do you think this is a good alternative for those looking to spend less on their wedding day?

Say it out "Loud" with talking Floral Bouquets!

Greeting cards that talk or play music have been around for a while now, so it seems natural to see those capabilities extended to the floral bouquet. Sure enough, global florist FTD has just released a line of floral arrangements that deliver a spoken message along with the flowers.

FTD's Say It Your Way line comprises three bouquets that are delivered with a chip-enabled keepsake heart ornament bearing the sender's message. Senders simply record their message by phone after placing their order; instructions are provided on the order confirmation page. For those too shy, Illinois-based FTD can also do the talking with a message that says, "Someone thinks you're special! Enjoy this beautiful bouquet!" Recipients can then play and replay the message at will, even long after the flowers have faded. Available talking bouquets include a mixed rose arrangement for USD 36, mixed tulips for USD 40 and red roses for USD 48.

Let them drink cake!

For this drink, the sugared rim simulates icing, while the cocktail is reminiscent of a white cake with fruity notes. It’s perfect for a bridal shower, wedding, anniversary or Valentine’s Day date (especially if it’s a V-Day/proposal combo). Also, with only one liquor and two mixers involved, it’s easy on the wallet, a major bonus during a major recession.

Wedding Cake Martini

2 ounces vanilla vodka
2 ounces pineapple juice
2 ounces sweet and sour mix
Combine in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain and pour into a raw sugar-rimmed martini glass.

Serves 1

Note: Avoid using the supercheap, neon-looking sweet and sour mix. It creates a less-balanced, less cake-like cocktail.

Marking Togetherness beyond the Unity Candle

The Wine ceremony is hip and contemporary, yet gives any ceremony an old world, traditional feel. Like the Sand ceremony, Breaking of the Glass, Rose and Unity Candle ceremonies, the Wine ceremony symbolizes the blending of your two lives into one. Many couples enjoy the unique nature of the Wine ceremony... especially the wine!

The Rose is the symbol of love, and the blending of the red and white wine creates a light pink Rose Wine, celebrating the love of the new couple.

Before the wedding begins, red wine and white wine, each in a small carafe, are placed next to a larger empty carafe with one or two wineglasses on a small table near the couple. The center carafe, called the "Marriage Carafe" is usually a bit larger than the two outside "individual" carafes.

The Wine ceremony usually takes place after the ring exchange. Music during the wine ceremony can add a nice touch, but is always optional.

The Officiant may announce that immediately after the service others may drink the new wine of their commitment to one life if they so desire, or Rose Wine may be served at the reception to mark this ceremony.

Edible decor...two purpose, one element!

Food is the center of all occassions, why not make it the centerpiece? There are a few things that make edible centerpieces such a great idea. For one thing, they are different than the usual flower displays. Your guests will find them to be a fun and fresh look. Also, if you have really beautiful tasty treats on the tables, their mouths will be watering in anticipation!
